  1. IMPORTANT changes for WeatherGraphix 3.1 (over 3.0).....
  2.  
  3. * For fast basemap plotting it is HIGHLY recommended that you use a disk
  4.   cache program (such as SMARTDRIVE in MS-DOS 5.0, etc), with a storage
  5.   space for files of minimum 10K, maximum 30K or higher.  On a 386DX,
  6.   basemap plotting should not take longer than 3 seconds, not much slower
  7.   than earlier versions of this program.
  8.  
  9. * Latitude/longitude lines used in V3.1 are not available when upgrading your
  10.   older program copy; these are part of a change which cannot be packaged
  11.   with demo programs.
  12.  
  13. * Severe thunderstorm and tornado watch boxes are now plotted.  This
  14.   feature has not yet been tested extensively, so be patient with it.
  15.   It requires you to have the NSSFC bulletins ("A TORNADO WATCH HAS BEEN 
  16.   ISSUED FOR PORTIONS OF EAST CENTRAL TEXAS", etc) stored in your DATA.SFC
  17.   or equivalent file.  WeatherGraphix will not plot warnings or flash flood
  18.   watches.  If you have an unusual-looking watch box, chances are that the
  19.   program referenced another station with the same name (e.g. Victoria
  20.   BC instead of Victoria TX).  If the program could not find a certain
  21.   station, add it to your WEATHER.STN file manually (spell the city name
  22.   as the program requests).  Expect improvements forthcoming -- be
  23.   patient!
  24.  
  25. * Convective outlooks are now plotted (registered users only).  This data
  26.   must be stored in your surface DATA.SFC or equivalent file.  The only
  27.   problems that could arise are unlocated stations and/or an improperly
  28.   formatted report.  These convective outlooks must be the raw,
  29.   original AC bulletin (available on Weathermation and Accu-Data, not
  30.   available on CompuServe).  You may use either the ACUS1 (day 1) and/or
  31.   the ACUS2 (day 2) bulletin.  If stations could not be located, modify
  32.   your WEATHER.STN file to add the 3-letter identifiers and their
  33.   locations.

  35. * IF YOU HAVE EGA ONLY -- Do NOT use the /E command when starting
  36.   WeatherGraphix.  WeatherGraphix should automatically be able to sense
  37.   your graphics configuration.  If you have any further problems please
  38.   let me know.
  39.  
  40. * It is known that there are some problems with the colors if you radically
  41.   modify the background colors, etc.  Please be patient -- this will be
  42.   improved in an upcoming release.
  43.  
  44. MISCELLANEOUS changes over WeatherGraphix V3.0.....
  45.  
  46. * Flaky, slow altimeter-setting analysis has been corrected
  47.  
  48. * Corrected a bug that caused rare occasions of altimeter setting plots
  49.   of "000" which were really another value
  50.  
  51. * Station IDs and cities are plotted in small fonts for your enjoyment.
  52.  
  53. * Modified aspect ratio slightly to improve appearance of geography.
  54.  
  55. * The heat index analysis is now corrected.  The equation was in error.
  56.  
  57. * In radar composites, a bug was present in earlier versions which
  58.   occasionally caused the radar station to be mislocated (though its 
  59.   echoes were located fine).  This has been corrected.
  60.  
  61. * Corrected bug for radar cell plotting... a lot of anomalous echoes should
  62.   be gone.
  63.  
  64. * Slightly revised WEATHER.STN master listing.
  65.  
  66. * Incorporates a few bug fixes, one which corrects a flaw where WeatherGraphix 
  67.   inevitably crashed after a heavy-use session with lots of Station 
  68.   Requests (it gave Error Code 4, i.e. too many open files)

  71. UPGRADE INFORMATION
  72. ============================================================================

  75.               UPGRADING from WEATHER PRO V2.0 or later
  76.               ----------------------------------------
  77.  
  78. 1. Unzip this package to a temporary, empty directory.  To set up the
  79.      empty directory, just enter, for instance, MD C:\WXTEMP.
  80. 2. Copy WEATHER.PLT from your old directory or your registered disk
  81.      to the temporary directory.
  82. 3. If you would like to keep your customized city listing, copy WEATHER.CTY
  83.      from the old directory to the temporary directory.
  84. 4. The old WEATHER.STN list is -NOT- compatible with Weather Pro V3.0.
  85. 5. Run WEATHER in the temporary directory to make sure everything runs
  86.      properly.
  87. 6. If all looks OK, delete everything in your old directory and copy all
  88.      contents of the temporary directory to the old directory.  Then
  89.      delete the temporary directory.

  95.    This is a rather extensive update, since the philosophy and structure
  96. of the program has changed, along with the name.  
  97.  
  98.    To update your program, make a new directory, preferably C:\WEATHER,
  99. and unzip this entire package into it.  Then follow these instructions. 
  100.  
  101.    1. MANDATORY!!!  Copy RADAR.PLT from your old directory, renaming it to 
  102.         WEATHER.PLT in the new one.  You can use a command like:
  103.         COPY C:\RADSCAN\RADAR.PLT C:\WEATHER\WEATHER.PLT
  104.    
  105.    2. If you have customized your town and city list, copy RADAR.CTY from 
  106.         the old directory to WEATHER.CTY in the new one.  Allow it to 
  107.         overwrite the old file.  
  108.    
  109.    3. Your new program is WEATHER.EXE in the new directory.  Read the
  110.         enclosed WEATHER.DOC and type WEATHER by itself to run the program. 
  111.  
  112.    4. When you get a chance, delete RadarScan from your disk drive as you'll
  113.         no longer need it.  
  114.  
  115. Changes RadarScan users might want to be aware of:
  116.  
  117.    * Your data file is no longer RADAR.TXT, but DATA.TXT.
  118.    * There are no command line parameters anymore.  However, if your data 
  119.        is not in DATA.TXT, specify it by adding it to the end of the WEATHER
  120.        startup command (e.g. WEATHER 04JUL92.DAT).
  121.    * You do not need to memorize the time for the weather data.  Weather
  122.        Pro will accurately figure it out for you.
  123.    * All commands are now keystroke-driven.  Once inside the program, you
  124.        can plot or look at maps or change the configuration.  See WEATHER.DOC
  125.        for further details.
